Why the Average Golf Score Has Remained Unchanged For the Last 100 Years

At first, it was a crooked stick and a feather stuffed ball. Leap forward 100 years and it is large Titanium club heads on ultra light weight graphite shafts and perfectly balanced hi-tech dimpled golf balls designed to fly far and straight.

Not only has the equipment changed, but so has the course. Turf technology has transformed the sand greens of the olden day into the perfectly smooth grass masterpieces some of us are lucky enough to play on.

Even the natural athletic abilities of the human being have been dramatically improved over the last few decades. A football player of the 1920s would get killed on the field today. And kids are brought into sports at an early age these days.

Yet, despite these advances in all areas of the game, the score of the average golfer has remained largely unchanged over the past 100 years. It seems that the average player scores as poorly today as they did with wooden shafts and gutta percha balls.

Why hasn’t the average score improved? We have access to golf instruction from many sources. We have the PGA and its group of trained professional teachers. We have the best equipment.

There is only one reason the average score has not improved over the last century. The average golfer still can’t make putts. If you want to improve your scoring, you have to improve your putting.

One must consider that the average golfer is limited by the putting method they use. The same things have been failing for 100 years now. Maybe it’s time to look for a better way to putt.

What is the PGA Golf School?

Golf has been one of the most favorite games in the world. It has now attained new dimensions and fame due to dynamic players like Tiger Woods. More and more people are being attracted towards the game and there are many schools offering their services for the new people coming up. One of these institutes is the PGA golf school. They are of two types. One is the Custom Golf Schools and the other one is the Long Drive Golf Schools. In both types of schools, training is given to small groups of people and to individual golfers in private training sessions.

The Custom PGA golf schools are offering customized or tailored programs. These are for people who have individual goals and aims in the game. These people have certain interests in the game and the programs are tailored specially for them. For example if a person is proficient in other aspects of the game and wants to attain proficiency in a specific area of the game then he can go for the custom schools program.

The other type of school is the long drive PGA golf school that teaches you how to hit the ball harder and longer. If you want to achieve more distance in your game then you should focus on learning from the long drive school. The school not only teaches you to bring long range in all your shots but also makes you proficient in long range off the tee shots.

You might be thinking that there are many other schools that provide same kind of facilities then why choose PGA golf schools. The reason is that the attention and focus you are given at these schools is unmatched. The main instructor provides you with guidance and direct instructions. This is the biggest and foremost benefit. Until the time proper attention is not given, you cannot learn properly. Then at these schools, you plan your programs and sessions.

May it be couples or family or individual students all prepare their programs according to their feasibility. This is a special thing about these schools. You are given more attention then you can handle. Being at these schools and learning from the golf teachers is an excellent experience. The other good thing is the private session. When you are learning in large groups then you cannot learn perhaps as quickly. On the other hand, if you are the only one to learn then you can think that what kind of instruction and attention you will be getting. The instructor at PGA golf school would give you all his or her attention.

PGA golf schools are located in San Francisco east bay area. The price varies for different sessions and is on per individual basis.

Quickly Improve Your Golf Swing With A Golf Swing Analyzer

A golf swing analyzer is a very useful device to help you to improve your golfing game by improving your golf swing. Although it is not the same as getting feedback from a real golfing professional a swing analyzer still works well at improving your drive. Besides, there are not many of us that can have a real professional on call whenever we would like a bit of instruction. They are very useful in bringing things to your attention that you would not usually notice if you were just practicing your swing. A golf swing analyzer is a device that analyzes your golf swing, either by the movement of your club or through a video and tells you what you can do to make your swing better.

There are different types of golf swing analyzers, but the real difference is in the cost. If you are just buying a golf swing analyzer to use at home then you are not likely to be spending the type of money that a golf clubhouse or country club would be spending on an analyzer. You can buy a fairly straightforward golf swing analyzer for a few hundred dollars or less that is just attached to your club when you swing and that can tell from the movement how your swing could be improved.

There are also more expensive analyzers where you video your swing and then load it into your computer. It is then run through a software program that analyzes your golf swing for the direction, speed, and angle of the shot. It can also project the direction and accuracy of the shot. This means that it has a much greater amount of data to analyze than with the cheaper models and for this reason is much more likely to be able to give a more comprehensive analysis of your golf swing. The more expensive machines at golf centers use a much more sophisticated technology. The shots are actually hit at a target and a camera records this from several angles so that an accurate picture can be made of the golfer’s swing and technique.

A golf swing analyzer can be a really good way to improve your game and no matter what type you use, it can help you to understand the best way to make your swing better. Naturally, if you get your swing right then it is a great part of improving your whole game and a good golf swing analyzer is a great way to help you. Don’t forget that you have to try to use the information that it gives you in practice so that you can really make your swing better.

Golf Swing Technique – Improve Your Swing Style

Golf swing technique can very easily help you improve your golf game if you can choose on the perfect swing technique. Maybe you did not know that the techniques vary and can give one player an edge over the other. If you follow the tips, you will reduce by a greater margin the wayward shots that perturb the minds of many golfers. The perfect golfer, you are, can only be maintained if you hit the most accurate straight and long strikes. The perfect golf swing technique that can guarantee you these shots can be achieved by improving your golf swing in the following way;

Make sure you start all your swings accurately or correctly. This is to say, your alignment must be square to the target or the hole to hit. This is key because if you fail to achieve that, you will be relying on a miracle to make a fruitful swing. The next step to take is to assume a stance that is comfortable but is of a backside out nature. As you do this, you must push out your rear end, while you free the upper part of your body and prepare it for a correct rotation.

Once you have perfected the two steps, the third step that can help you improve your golf swing technique is to try looking at the ball. If you fail to look at the golf ball, you may be likened to a person who is taking a shot at a baseball with his/her eyes closed or looking for a tiny thing in a dark room. So be realistic, look at the ball before you slowly and smoothly swing to make the shot. You don’t need to fumble with your shots since they make your scores.

Up to that point, you are securely having your best foot forward into achieving the perfect swing. Take an iron pinch action if you are working with irons or a sweeping swing when dealing with woods. You can pick on a rhythm song to grace your swings if you are an amateur golfer. For professional golfers, it is a piece of cake since they have a flat brain wave pattern that defines their strikes.

Want to swing and hit like tiger iron or tiger wood. Leave your legacy to its fullest by learning and practicing the best golf swing technique and be the next golf guru.

How Can I Improve My Golf Swing

How many times have you thought… how can I improve my golf swing? I’ll be it’s a crazy number. A number that’s higher than all your fingers, toes and hairs on your head! Why is this such an elusive issue? How come with all the technology we golfers aren’t improving? It’s mind boggling, but I have a few insights that might help, and it’s not about just going out to the range and pounding balls.

It’s not buying every new driver that comes out. It’s much, much simpler and cheaper than that. What if I told you it’s so easy you wouldn’t even have to ever take another golf lesson again? What if… to improve your golf swing all you had was ONE swing thought? Does this sound like “pie in the sky?” Wouldn’t that be nice to have just ONE swing thought every time you stepped up to hit the golf ball?

Well… that time has come! When I tell you this ONE THING you might want to strangle me, or if you take a step back and think. You’ll shake your head in utter shock at this… but you can’t deny I’m on to something.

Do you want to hear it yet, or do you want me to continue to tease you and not tell you til the bitter end of this golf article? I’m a “yesterday” kind of guy, but I’m kind of having fun with this topic of “how can I improve my golf swing”. It’s a topic that million of golfers daily think about, but many of them take the wrong approach to achieving the end result of a better golf swing.

Let me ask you something. When you mishit a golf ball, what took place? What really happened that caused this often humiliating shot that no doubt will cost you strokes on your score card? Was it all those tips and techniques you’ve tried from the magazines? You get the golf magazine, see a tip, rush to the range and IT WORKED! You start “flushing the golf ball” and you run back to your significant other and say… “I’ve got it”.

Does this scenario sound familiar? Have you gone to a range with a new swing thought or golf tip and started to hit awesome golf shots that you could repeat over and over again? I know I have, and the minute I got to the course “it was gone”!

What the heck?

Finally… hear is the ANSWER to the question “how can I improve my golf swing”.

SWING EASY!

How many times have you lost all care on the course, swung easy, and hit a beautiful shot with no lack of distance? It’s because you had NO TENSION in your body! You “let it go”. This is the SECRET to better golf. You’ll never need another lesson every again.

Online Golf Schools – Is There Really Such a Thing?

With the popularity of golf growing exponentially in recent years, so too has the popularity of golf schools. Of course, it didn’t take long for Internet entrepreneurs to enter the fray with their own versions of online golf schools. Now the question is, how can someone teach golf online? Also, if it is possible, can one of these golf schools really help your game?

Can They Help?

The answer to these questions is that it all depends on the level at which you play. Obviously an advanced golfer can only improve on his game by a more conventional means of instruction at a standard golf school or academy. However; for the beginner, an online golf school may be of some benefit for a few good reasons.

For Beginners

Online golf schools are able to outline the fundamentals of a beginners game quite well. Also, they can help a beginner to avoid picking up many of the standard bad habits that so many golfers do in the early stages of learning the game. So, someone who is interested in getting a good foothold on the fundamentals of the game of golf, can in fact benefit greatly from an online golf school.

Cost Considerations

Cost is another factor that has to be considered when deciding on what type and what level of golf instruction to undertake. There are numerous golf schools and academies to choose from in the U.S. and they come in a wide range of prices. Factors that can play into the cost of attending a particular golf school or academy are things such as the technology that they offer and the level of the pros that are doing the instructing.

New Technologies and Teaching Methods

Digital video golf swing analysis is some of the latest and most up to date technology that many golf schools are offering but it does not come cheap. Not only is the equipment itself expensive but it also requires highly trained experts to operate it and apply it to the student. However; there are other new technologies and instruction methods that are now being incorporated in the teaching curricula of many golf schools that is well worth taking a look at.

Improve Your Golf Swing With Tactile Feedback and Muscle Memory

Ben Hogan would hit a golf ball with his nine iron (or other club of choice for that day) on his way to and from his grade school, miles from his home in Texas. Gary Player would play hooky from school so he could hit 1000 or more balls that day. Lee Trevino would also hit a thousand or more golf balls on any given day. These three and hundreds of more golfers perfected their swings through constant and laborious practice, while hitting real balls. Through years of repetition they developed the necessary muscle memory to achieve their personal, consistent and repeatable golf swings.

More recently however as golf increased in popularity, personal instructors and training aids were utilized to help golfers improve their swings. At age 10, Jack Nicklaus learned from Jack Grout, his first Pro Instructor, that it was important for him to keep his head “rock solid steady.” Grout provided tactile feedback to young Nicklaus by grabbing him by his hair and holding his head still, thereby helping Jack to get that tactile feel for a steady head. Ultimately, Jack developed the muscle memory that enabled him in fact, to keep his head still.

Hank Haney used this exact technique to help Charles Barkley keep his head steady, during the “Haney Project,” Golf Channel’s successful TV series. Unfortunately for Charles, he did not have the sufficient time required to develop the muscle memory to keep his head steady. Nor could he be constantly practicing with Haney.

In his book, “How I Play Golf,” Tiger Woods is seen several times with Butch Harmon wherein Harmon is offering tactile feedback. In one picture, Harmon is using the grip end of an iron to touch and hold Tiger’s Chin Up. It is one method to tell a golfer to “hold your chin up.” It is another and more effective technique to provide tactile feedback, with a club or training aid.

In another picture in Tiger’s book, Harmon is again using the grip end of a club to give Tiger the feel, the touch, the tactile feedback to keep his left shoulder under his chin on the backswing. And in still another picture, Harmon is actually holding Tiger’s right elbow close to his torso, to keep it from “flying out.” Again Harmon is providing tactile feedback to Tiger.

We all know that “practice makes permanent,” but not necessarily “perfect.” Imperfect practice will lead to a permanent imperfect swing. If a golfer is serious about improving her/his swing it is important to add tactile feedback to practice or hit 1000 balls each day. Identify the aspect of the swing you wish to improve and then obtain a training aid that will offer tactile feedback for that aspect. Without the feedback, there is a good chance that you may be “making permanent” a flaw in your present swing.

How to Shorten Your Golf Swing and Improve Your Golf Game

So maybe you have a good short game, once you are on the green you are money with your putter, but the only problem is it took you five shots to get there which completely defeats the purpose of having a good short game. It is pretty simple actually, if you don’t have a decent golf swing you can either try and fix your golf swing or take up another sport. The golf swing is instrumental in perfecting your golf game, but it is also one of the hardest things to perfect as it takes a lot of practice and fine tuning to possess a good and respectable golf swing.

As easy as hitting a golf ball with a golf club may look on TV when Tiger Woods is smacking the ball 300+ yards down the fairway it is far from the truth. When trying to create the perfect golf swing a lot things come into play. First you must always keep your eye on the ball at all times during your swing. Secondly, hip rotation when during your swing is also something that is very important and quite often overlooked, without the right hip rotation will never get the distance in your drive. Lastly you always have to follow through with your swing, without the right follow through you will never be able to place the ball where you want it.

If you watch the pros like Tiger long enough you will notice that they have all aspects of their swing down to a science. Their hips, follow through and concentration are near perfect. You can learn a lot if you watch the best at work, especially Tiger Woods.

Golf Lessons – A FAQ For Beginners Learning Golf For the First Time

Golf lessons for beginners don’t come cheap. You need to squeeze as much as you can out of your golf trainer in the short time you spend with him. Here are some common tips, questions and answers which can help you wring the maximum benefit from your golf lessons.

1. How do I find the best golf trainers or golf lessons for beginners?

The best way is to ask for a recommendation from a friend whose opinion you trust. If you can’t do this, try asking at your local golf club or golf shop. Worst comes to worst, you can look in the Yellow Pages or buy a DVD course from Amazon (Remember to read the customer reviews before you buy).

2. How much does a golf lesson cost?

Rates run around $40-$50 an hour. Some locations are more expensive, e.g. Chicago pros charge around $100 an hour. This varies from pro to pro. If price really matters to you, you may be better off buying a DVD course or online course.

3. Should I get my clubs custom fitted before going for my golf lessons?

Opinions here are divided. My answer: If you don’t even know how to play golf, the answer is “No”. Custom fitting only benefits you once you develop a repeatable and consistent swing. However, pick up the phone and ask your golf trainer – if he has a different opinion then you should go with his advice.

Regardless, you should get your clubs re-gripped, especially if you are using hand-me-downs or second-hand clubs. Having the correct sized grips helps you to hold the club firmly. More than one player has found his persistent slice or hook mysteriously cured once he fixed his grip.

4. Do I need to tip my golf trainer?

That depends – how much did you get out of your golf lessons? One thing to remember is that most pros only take home 50% to 70% of what you pay them. The rest goes to the golf course or school. In a sense, they are very much like taxi drivers and waiters.

5. Should I get golf swing instructions A) from a pro; or B) from a certified golf instructor?

Theoretically, the certified golf instructor is trained to teach golf swing lessons, while the pro is someone who showed he knows how to play well. However, see the answer to question #1 – in practice, who cares whether your golf trainer is certified or not as long as he can teach you well!

6. I’m left-handed. Should I look for a left-handed instructor?

Not necessarily. Note that many left-handed golfers actually play right-handed. Courses are normally set up for right-handed play, and left-handed clubs are often more expensive.

7. How many golf lessons do I need?

That really depends on how quickly you learn. More importantly, if you have the choice, try to space out your lessons – once per month should give you enough time to practice on your own.

After you complete your beginner’s lessons, you should strongly consider scheduling follow-up lessons with your golf trainer. There are two main reasons for this:
Many week-end golfers tend to pick up bad golf habits over time. Their golf swing techniques slowly become develop mistakes and they play worse and worse. Follow-up lessons will help you to arrest the slide in your game. For those of you who actually manage to get a lot of practice in, you’ll find your skill hitting a plateau. Follow-up lessons will allow your golf instructor to teach you additional skills, for example how to hit a fade or draw, and how to control the spin of your ball. All of these will give you better accuracy in your swing.

The preceding frequently asked questions on golf lessons should help most beginners get more bang for the buck.

Be Careful About Using Free Golf Swing Tips Indiscriminately

It is quite easy to find golf swing tips these days. This because of the widespread presence of the media, which is present in our day to day life. The television, the internet, the golf magazines and the local libraries (that are flooded with books related to golf), all contribute their little in the form of instructions to the game. The maximum golf tips that one gets are from the fellow golfers. When you visit a course and plan to participate with a group or friends, you will be surprised to see the amount of enthusiasm all the golfers have and they readily offer their advices on golf.

None-the-less many golfers prefer to view the golf swing tips on the internet. The reason for this is that internet will provide with all the latest instructions and information going on around the world. Moreover this plethora of information is just a click away. Once you start researching on the internet take a look at those web sites that are genuine. Some web sites entice you into buying their products and you ultimately shelve out money from your wallet. In case you find some information, see how valuable is it to your current requirement.

On conducting researches and after gathering relevant information, a wise step would be to compare the data. Sometimes you will find that the data are contradicting. The different sites will give you different instructions for the same problem. There will be many abnormalities in their approach. If you follow them, your game will become worse and you can forget about the improvements.

The professional golfers and the instructors will always discourage you to follow online golf tips. As reading these may lead to serious confusion. Despite all the warning you want to continue your discovery, be careful in calculating the benefit value of these tips. They may mislead you and tell you the erroneous details.

It is a common fact that when you learn something and make it a practice, then unlearning that habit becomes very strenuous and frustrating. Similarly if you have learnt all the bad habits of golf swing, (by learning from online free golf swing tips) it will take a while before you come on the right track. In the process you might injure yourself both physically and emotionally. Some tips like bending your wrists while taking the club for the impact, are definitely incorrect. You will not only hit a bad shot, your wrists might get injured in the process. Therefore be aware of the correct process and guard yourself against the temptation of free golf swing tips.

For that reason it is good idea to take the help of a golf swing instructor or get a few films to watch on golf swings. These means will provide you with good guidance; the kind you are searching for. Obtaining the assistance of a good golf swing lesson is another effectual way of improving your swing.

The crux of the discussion is that there are plenty of free golf swing tips available in the air but be careful about using free golf swing tips indiscriminately. All the golfers will have different opinions about the same problems. This is due to the fact that they all see the game from a different point of view.

Golf Instruction That You Won’t Get Anywhere Else, An Outlandish Way to Fix That Slice!

That nasty slice.. the one thing about your golf swing that you can always count on. That nasty slice!

Want to get rid of it?

Are you willing to take some time to get it done once and for all at the risk of a few blisters on your pinky?

Ok, here is the most commonly seen move in a golf swing that produces the slice that you have grown so comfortable with.

It is almost always caused by an “over the top swing path” this causes the club to travel from outside the target line to inside the target line after impact, it puts a serious right to left spin on the ball. And the harder you swing the more spin you will get. And the further to the right the shot will travel.

Most often the over the top move is created because of a poor weight shift. Because, without the weight shift, the only way to get to the ball is to throw the club at it from the top with your hands and shoulders while leaving the weight on the right side.

Try it. In slow motion. You will see where the club goes and why. Over the top. Outside to inside. Keep your weight on the right side and slowly bring the club to the ball. Or keep your weight on the left side and then as you bring the club to the ball allow your weight to go to the right side, a classic reverse weight shift. But still you will generally make the over the top move and swing outside in.

Whether you have no weight shift or a reverse weight shift no matter. Same problem, different look.

Exactly opposite of what it supposed to be for the most effective golf swing.

So now let’s take your time here and see if you can follow this reasoning for the over the top move.

It is very important that you understand why you do it. And then how you do it.

So picture this: You are standing over the ball getting ready to tee off on the first hole. A par four slight dogleg left. You take your weak grip and move into your takeaway.

You pick the club up and turn to the right. Once you have picked the club up several things have happened, none of them are good. First you probably will stop turning your shoulders because, after all the club is already at the top of your swing.

Once you stop turning your shoulders, your left arm begins to break at the elbow. Often this is not so bad but a bent left arm contributes to the poor turn as it, in itself, is an indicator to you that you have already turned enough. ( although not true)

So you stop turning. ( death move)

The thing that this early pickup and the stopped turn does, is that it eliminates the opportunity for you to create the “slot” on the downswing. The slot is created by a good turn of the shoulders and the turning of the right hip.

This combination does create an area of freedom under your right elbow.

Test it to see.

Turn your shoulders so that your back is to the target. Lift your right arm so that your forearm is perpendicular with your bicep and your right wrist is in the “trayed” position. Your bicep should be parrallel to the ground or floor.

Now notice that you have a space where you could drop your right arm straight down into.

This is the famous “slot”

If you now just drop your right elbow you will see that there is plenty of room for it.

You must create this slot.

Now is there room for you to drop your right elbow straight down without hitting your hip?

If there is, you did it. If not turn some more.

This slot is never there if you just pick up the club and don’t turn enough. Trust this, you must have the slot.

The notion that you have to have an upright swing is not correct. There is another method.

I will call it flat, short and powerful.

You see, the mechanics of the golf swing always remain the same. The reason for this is that there is no way to avoid this fact: our body parts all all connected. So that if we move one part another part will also move. It is not possible to move one single part of your body without moving another part.

If we know this, we can use it to our advantage in making a useful and productive golf swing.

It’s kinda like the leg bone connected to the knee bone, and so on. So it makes perfect sense to make an effort to understand what is connected to what and how the parts will move and why.

Here is an example. If I move my left hip during the downswing so that it slides toward the target and stay on my right side, my left shoulder will move up, my right shoulder will move down, the bottom of my spine will go with the hip and the top of my spine will move away from the target, backwards.

This is all because I didn’t bump and turn my hip, and stayed on my right side. The result as far as a golf swing goes is a thin hit or the infamous worm burner. It’s because the spine angle changed due to the hip slide, the spine went back away from the target and this changed the downswing to an up swing at impact.

The point here is just to know why body parts contribute to the success of the swing and how. Or not!

Alrighty then. How to fix the slice and not have to think about all this.

The upright swing, or the more modern classic swing is what is more commonly taught on the practice tees across America.

Let’s try something totally different.

Instead of your hands being high and above your shoulders, let’s keep them below your shoulders on your backswing. Low and around yourself. Flat. Flat as a pancake.

Take the club to the inside and turn your left shoulder fully under your chin. Do not allow your hands to get above your shoulder. They will go behind you. Your right elbow will be behind you too.

Your left shoulder will go under you chin and you will feel tension and pulling of your shoulder and upper back. This is good!

This backswing will be decidedly shorter than you may be acustomed to. This also is good.

You will have created an excellent slot with little effort. Make sure you have some weight on your right leg.

Now if you are in the correct position, turn your shoulders back to the left while allowing the arms and hands to just go along for the ride. Turn with speed and power. Arms and hands going toward the ball.

If you have ever played baseball, this will feel very familiar to you. If you have never played baseball, now is a good time to imagine what hitting a baseball should feel like.

This flat, short and powerful swing is use by many PGA players and is so simple it is scary.

Try it. Caution. Don’t get too far inside on the takeaway. And remember to make an aggressive move on the downswing.

IF you do this correctly, it is almost impossible to hit a slice. But you can do it wrong and nothing changes for you.

Just give it a try. Nothing ventured.

Definite Beginner Golf Instruction

Definite beginner golf instruction, is the only way any budding golf enthusiast can set standards for themselves if they want to progress in the game.

There are a myriad of books and Videos out there, and each one claiming to be the final word on golfing tips. And in reality most of them are excellent, But at the end of the day, it is all down to the individual themselves how good they want to be at the game.

Golf is a wonderful game. It has so much benefits to the player, Male and Female alike. But there is only one problem, you just get out of it what you put in. In other words, what your attitude is to studying the basic components. If you approach the game in a hit and miss fashion, then that will be the result you will reap.

If you are a definite beginner, then golf instruction is the correct way to approach the game. And the least expensive way is to study an E Book method which has been written by a professional who knows his game inside out.

As a beginner there are certain routines you must practice until they become second nature to you.

These are, firstly, you must learn the fundamentals of how to set yourself up for a game of golf. This includes studying the drills which are explained in your E Book.

For example. How to measure the exact distance you need to be from the ball before you strike.

This is done by selecting the correct tee. How high this tee is, becomes vital for the type of shot you want to take. It is useless if you are teeing off with the wrong tee.

Once you have placed the ball on the tee, make sure it is dead centre of your body. Next place the face of your driver exactly behind the centre of the ball in an upright position and then let it fall back until you can feel comfortable with the distance, but still keeping the club face directly behind the ball.

Now put your legs apart each side of the ball. They should be approximately ten to twelve inches each side of the ball.

Now you are ready to adapt your grip to what you have been practising. This should be flexible but firm.

Beginner golf instruction is the most important part of any golfers armory. You must set aside times for going to the driving range where you can practice your set up routines, your technique drills, and most importantly your golf swing.

There are no quick fixes to becoming a low handicap golfer. There is only practice and focus with a hundred per cent dedication.

It has been said by a wonderful professional, that the only quick way to reduce a handicap is with an eraser.

My friend in golf I wish you success and enjoyment in your games of golf. I hope these few tips were helpful to you.

Noel.

Improve Your Golf Swing – How to Swing Properly

To improve the golf swing there are many factors that you have to consider. The professionals and single handicappers that shoot consistently less than 80 all have a swing that can be reproduced time and time again and that is the key to improving your swing.

Here are some key pointers that Butch Harman (Tiger Woods’ coach) talks about when offering instruction to improve the golf swing.

Pre-shot Routine

It sounds funny but the pre-shot routine really is very important because if you don’t address the ball in the same way for each and every shot then you’re going to have a torrid time trying to create a swing that is consistent for all 18 holes. A pre-shot routine is very important to improving your golf swing.

A great pre-shot routine is to stand behind the ball so that your body and the ball are in line with the target and visualize the shot that you want to hit. Then, pick a twig, or a lead (anything will do) that is directly on the target line between your ball and the hole. Use that to align the club face up behind the ball so that it is square on with the target. Grip the club as you do normally, waggle the club, bend slightly at the waist and introduce some flexibility into the knees.

If you do the above every single time – you know that you’ll always be square on with the target and you’ve got a great chance of improving your consistency.

Take the club back on the correct plane

A lot of amateurs take the club back on the wrong plane. The most common thing I see down the golf course is a plane that is too flat on take away. This means that the golfer takes the club back on the inside of the target line, making it very difficult to compensate on the way through.

The ideal plane is slightly outside the target line on the way back, and slightly flat on the downswing. If you watch Tiger Woods, you’ll see that he does this brilliantly. If there’s a player to emulate then it should definitely be him! If you can swing on the correct plane, you’ll definitely improve your golf swing.

Get into the Rhythm!

Another common mistake I see, especially on the tee, is when golfers step up to the ball and try and really let rip with the club. They tend to speed up their swing because they feel they need to generate extra club head speed. Well, speeding up the backswing is not going to make any difference to the club head speed coming through the ball! In fact it’s likely going to put you off balance or even make you swing out of synchronization. If you want to see a player with incredible rhythm, take a look at Ernie Els – he’s like a pendulum. Good rhythm will improve your golf swing!

Keep your head still!

A lot of beginners are guilty for doing this, but when you swing the golf club you really need to keep your head still. A lot of people will tell you to “keep your head down” but that’s not always good advice because your head needs to be high enough for the shoulders to make a full and complete rotation. So, keep your head high, but focused on the ball and don’t lift your head up on the follow through, stay committed to the shot!

The Magical Tip to Improve the Golf Swing

Check your club position at the top of your swing – in the best swings the club shaft is parallel to the ground and the bottom angle of the club is parallel with your arms. This is called being “square on” at the top of the swing and is one of the absolute fundamentals of an excellent golf swing. If you’d like to know more about getting into that magical position at the top of the swing, there is an excellent guide called the Simple Golf Swing that gives your drills and takes you through the process.

The position at the top of the swing is the most important key to unlocking your golfing potential, once you’re square at the top you’re far more likely to be square at impact and hit the ball towards the target. There is a review of the guide here.

2 Tips To Improve Your Golf Swing In A Hurry!

So you want to improve your golf swing? It’s one aspect of the game common with many golfers keen to attain a golf swing good enough to form the foundation of a consistent game.

The honest truth… most part time golfers won’t do anything about improving their golf swing simply because they enjoy the outing and the social aspect of the game. But if you are reading this article, then you are certainly serious about picking up a tip or two to help develop some consistency in that swing.

Why is it so many players have difficulty maintaining a consistent swing? For new players, the ability to eliminate bad habits from their game is easy.

For more experienced golfers it’s not so easy but it’s doable. One tip I picked up early in my golfing career when I was having trouble with my back swing certainly transformed and helped me improve my golf swing.

In fact, this one tip not only helped me eliminate the unco-ordinated knees and falling shoulders during the process of the swing but helped me add a strong mental side to my game.

How To Improve Your Golf Swing

The back swing is a big problem area for many players and most of the time it can be corrected without too much fuss and effort. For some reason, the left knee is allowed to collapse on top of the right knee during the back swing process. The result:

- the shoulders tend to collapse and drop in the process and

- your hips will tend to go into a swaying motion

What’s up with this? The result is always hit and miss. Sometimes you hit the ball flush and most times you don’t. Two things you can try:

- when about to play the swing, just imagine your left knee is drawn towards the area you intend to hit the ball and

- if this is difficult to implement, grab your favorite soccer ball or basketball and place them between your knees during practice sessions.

The first tip was handy but it was the second tip which helped this author. It’s amazing but after several practice sessions using a soccer ball, every time I played a round of golf for several months after it felt like that ball was always there during the swing process.

The effect can be dramatic and worth the effort if you are serious about wanting to improve your golf swing.

Do You Want to Improve Golf Your Swing Speed?

Do you have trouble with your golf swing distance? Do your golfing buddies snicker every time you step up to the tee because your swing is so short? The cure is simple – learn how to improve your golf swing speed and power.

But is this possible? Just look at the top golf professionals today – they are hitting their golf balls farther than 10 years ago. This increase in distance did not just come from talent and modern technology. In fact, the PGA has restricted the contribution of modern technology to the game.

So what is causing modern golf pros to hit their balls farther? If you look at photos of Tiger Woods and his rivals, and compare them against the older generation of players, you can see that modern players are a lot more fit and muscular. They swing their clubs a lot harder and faster.

How does knowing this fact help you? Simple. If you improve your level of fitness, you too will increase how far you can drive the golf ball. The best way is to invest in a dedicated golf fitness program.

Your golf fitness training will increase your strength as well as your flexibility. This means your swing speed and power will both increase, letting you launch the ball faster and farther away. But what if you don’t have the budget for a dedicated training program?

How To Improve Golf Swing Power

Do some simple calisthenics. Basically push-ups, squats and lunges. These are all simple, free exercises which rely on your own body weight. 10 reps, once a day, will only take you 5 to 10 minutes. If you are like me, this basic fitness routine will easily add 10 yards to your drive.

If you have a bit of spare cash, learn pilates to develop your core strength. A strong core will let you swing the club faster and really boost your golf swing power.

Wouldn’t you like to see your golfing foursome’s faces when you suddenly drive the golf ball 30 yards farther than usual?

2. How To Improve Golf Swing Speed

If you want the ball to go farther, you need to swing your club faster. That means you need more wind-up on your backswing. You won’t get much power out of the 8 o’clock position. Imagine how much more speed you can get out of your golf swing if you can reach back to the 10 o’clock position.

In other words, to get more backswing, you need to become more flexible.

Becoming more flexible is a simple matter – just loosen your tight muscles, tendons and ligaments with stretching exercises. For golf, you especially want to target your lower back, shoulders and hamstrings. If you don’t know any specific stretching exercises, just visit your local library and find the books on flexibility exercises. You’ll want to specially find out how to do the Rotators stretch for your hamstrings, and the Cats Up and Cats Down stretches for your lower back. The Trunk Rotation and Spinal Twists exercises will also be very helpful to increase your backswing and improve your golf swing speed.

Learn how to improve your golf swing speed and power and you will be able to drive the ball farther than ever before. Your score will get better and your handicap will drop.
