Mastering the correct golf swing techniques is crucial to winning games on a regular basis. There are many golf swing tips claiming to teach you how to drive the ball farther. An important point to note is that many of these tips do not work in isolation. In fact some of these tips actually contradict one another!

So does this mean that all golf driving tips are just so much hot air? Of course not. You just need to know that different tips work together to form the correct golf swing technique. And there are many techniques out there. A tip which works well for one technique might just turn another driving technique into a mess. You cannot just blindly copy-cat a particular golf swing tip into your technique and expect it to work.

While there are many different golf swing techniques, all the successful techniques can be grouped into either the “one plane swing” school or the “two plane swing” school. Overall, the “two plane swing” school of driving the golf ball is more common. Its most famous exponent is probably Greg Norman.

On the other hand, you can see the “one plane swing” school in action in the drives of two of the best modern golfers in the world – Tiger Woods and Vijay Singh. Yes, indeed – the respective number one and number two golf professionals in the world today are steadily racking up their victories.

Regardless of your technique, there are two major indicators which show whether or not you have correctly mastered your golf swing: rhythm and balance. How do you know when your rhythm is correct? Well, that is like asking a musician whether or not his rhythm is correct. You need to do it. If you have to ask, then you probably do not have it yet. Having said that, once you have mastered the rhythm, you will be able to repeat the same movement consistently at the same speed all the time.

What about balance, then? For inexperienced players, you achieve the best balance by evenly distributing your weight about both feet. Unlike martial arts, you should not try to gain more power in your swing by shifting your balance around. It is far better to maintain a stable stance around which you build your swing.

A common mistake which many golfers make in their golf is to try and increase the power of their swing. It is true that you need a powerful swing to hit the ball farther, but it is even more important to first develop your accuracy. After you can get the ball going where you want, then you can improve your power. Be patient. This is the sequence of events when you do it right: increase accuracy; accuracy increased; increase power; power increased but accuracy decreased; increase accuracy at the new power level; accuracy increased at the new power level; rinse and repeat. Any other way is an exercise in frustration and hair-pulling failure.

Remember to keep up your strength training and flexibility exercises. If you achieve greater strength and a wider range of movement, it will result in your swing becoming more powerful on its own. In other words, by doing golf fitness training, you can improve your golf swing without changing your golf swing techniques. Definitely a good motivation to go to the gym regularly, yes?

Once we realise that the grip is the only connection between the player and the golf club – we will also realise why it is so crucial to get this part of our game right. Essentially, we need to achieve the correct golf grip.

Placing your hands correctly on the club will give you the best possible control of the club face at impact with the ball. For the perfect grip, the club should be held in the fingers more than in the palm of the hand.

Beginning with your left hand (right handed golfers), lay the grip across your fingers` joints – running at an angle from the base joint of your little finger to the first joint of your index finger. Wrap your fingers around the grip and place your thumb to the right side of the shaft (left side for left-handers). When you look down at the back of your hand, you should see two knuckles – those of your index and middle fingers.

Place your right hand below your left hand on the shaft,(reverse for left-handers), using either the overlap or interlocking grip. Initially, as with any change you make to your swing, set-up, grip, etc. it will feel rather strange, but after some time and practice it will soon become second nature.

Another important element which, helps with the correct golf grip, is the wearing of a glove. The reason for wearing a glove is to enable us to grip the club as lightly as possible while still having control of it. The lighter we are able to grip the club, the faster we are able to swing – which in turn generates more club head speed, which equalsgreater distance.

We can also use the glove as an indicator of an incorrect grip – if you notice excessive wear in the heel or palm of your glove, then your grip may need some adjustment or fine-tuning.

7 Easy Ways to Cure Your Golf Slice Quickly

It is said that the majority of golfers suffer from one form of a slice or another. It can very often lead to reduced distance, lost balls in the rough and most irritatingly a disappointing score. It is possible to take steps to cure your slice. This article will offer a number of quick and easy steps to help solve your problem.

The slice is the product of an ‘outside – in’ swing plane where the clubface is open at contact with the ball. The result is a squirt to the right. It can be so bad that the ball can literally fly off on a right angled trajectory. Common reasons why this happens are a lack of full shoulder rotation, standing too upright, weak grip and a stiff swing to name but a few. Lets get in to some of the ways you can remedy these problems and get your handicap down to where you want it to be.

Check to see if your stance is too open at address. If your shoulders are aiming too far left and you are aiming your clubface at the target then you will cut across the ball. Try bringing your stance round so that your shoulders are almost aiming directly at the target.

To help flatten your swing plane be sure to bend from your hips to the ground. Standing too upright promotes too steep a downswing. Try and imagine you are swinging a baseball bat.

If you can’t see any of your knuckles on your left hand (your right hand if you play left handed) then your grip is ‘weak’. This will promote a slice so move your hand round the grip so you can see 2 of your knuckles.

A simple way of reducing slice can be addressing the ball with the clubface slightly closed. If your tendency is always to open the clubface at contact this may help in straightening out your shot.

To get you to have the correct shoulder rotation and stance so that the swing plane is moving ‘inside-out’ try this drill. Take your driver and place it across your shoulders. Have the grip by your left shoulder sticking out. Now set up as you would normally and make your shoulder rotation.

When you have completed the backswing the butt of the grip should be pointing about a foot beyond the ball. Anything nearer and your swing plane is probably too steep and you are likely to slice the ball. Practice getting your set up and shoulder rotation so that the butt ends in the correct position.

Try this to help promote a nice loose swing with the shoulders rotating fully through the swing. Stand with your legs together and play as you normally would. You will sacrifice distance but you will also discover a more consistent swing through proper shoulder rotation. This reduces the domination of the arms in the swing which often leads to the club moving off plane and cutting inside the ball.

On your backswing many teachers promote the idea that you should flatten your left wrist. When you come back on your downswing the wrists should then be rotating so that the clubface returns square to the target with the right hand rotating over so that it is on top of the grip on your follow through. This is a difficult motion to master for amateurs and results in the left wrist staying above the right and therefore causing an open clubface at impact. Try and eliminate this by concentrating on getting your left elbow to be pointing down at the ground on impact.

If you employ some or all of the tips contained here you should see a real reduction in the number of sliced shots during a round and you will get much better scores. Get out there and give it a go. Best of luck!

We have all done it. Set up for you your shot, golf club face square to the pin. Stance is perfect, swing feels great, and the perfect ping when the club hits the golf ball and the flight path of the ball looks like a darn banana. A slice has happened to everyone at one time or another. To cure a golf slice does not take a lot of work, and will make a huge difference in your golf game.

A golf slice is when the golf club face strikes the golf ball off square. This causes the golf ball to spin during flight imparting the dreaded curve that has ruined many a shots. Even the pros will occasionally hit a golf slice, so your goal is to learn the basics of reducing your chance of hitting a banana ball.

When you want to fix a golf slice examine your stance. When you set up for your shot look at your feet. Are they square to your target? Lay a club on the ground aiming at the intended target. Do your feet line up with your club? When in your stance, do your shoulders also stay square to the same plane as your feet? It is important to keep your shoulders lined up to that target also.

It is hard to fix your golf slice by yourself. Not that it cannot be done, but enlist the help of a friend to stand back and watch you during the full range of your golf swing. Or use a video camera to record you while you hit the ball multiple times. See want you are doing right and what you are doing wrong. Take what you see and change up your stance till you are consistently hitting the ball in a straight line and not slicing the golf ball.
