A lot of people have a tendency to get on their computer and search the internet for golf lessons or tips that can lower their score in even the slightest way. A not so well known media for learning how to play golf or just learning how to improve your game is golf video instruction. It allows people that are visual to see everything as well as control what they are seeing.

One of the biggest advantages of golf video instruction is that you can pop it in your DVD player at anytime and watch the videos. You can switch around chapters or DVDs to find the thing that you want to focus on. Then whenever you have it switched to that and you are watching it happen you can pause the video or slow it down so you can get an in depth look at what you are trying to learn.

Another big thing is that a lot of people simply cannot understand something in a written down pallet they need pictures, or even better they need moving pictures. This is where golf video instruction comes into play. It allows the watcher to focus on certain things whether that means straightening out their left arm or the approach.

The possibilities of golf video instruction are endless. As they are today they can benefit any kind of player whether you are a beginner shooting well above par or a pro who just wants to shave a shot or two off of the score card.

The dreaded slice, the left to right curve in ball flight (opposite for left handed subjects). This is a very common and troublesome problem. This can be caused by a wide array of actions. Also, it can be corrected by a large number of solutions. I am going to explain in a little more detail exactly how this is caused and how to go about correcting your slice.

First of all, how do you manage to put such a curve on the ball? Well it is simple physics, the ball is spinning clockwise which pulls air to its left and moves the ball to the right. The cause is usually one of two things. The first being your club face open at impact. By this, I mean that your club has not come back to be fully square on the ball when the club strikes it. This will cause the ball to slide outward creating that clockwise rotation. The next cure is coming through the ball at an out to in swing path. This means the club slashes across the ball at impact coming toward the body again creating that clockwise spin on your ball. These are the two most common reasons for the slice.

Now you know what causes your problem but on to the good stuff, how do we fix it? Now that we know the cause this will be very simple. You may first close the club face at address to help have it closed at impact. To do this you must rotate the club counter clockwise in your grip before you swing. This will solve most of your slice problems. However, if this does not work then we have a more serious issue, this being the out to inside swing path. Still a pretty simple fix! Next time you are on the practice range stand behind your ball and pick out a target. Now place a tee one foot in front of your ball aiming right at the target. The next few times you swing make sure you follow through directly at that tee. This done over and over will help your muscle memory and get you onto an even swing path!

We have now gone over exactly what a slice is, what causes it, and how to fix it. The slice can be a very bad problem to have and will drastically kill your distance. With these few little tweaks I do hope to drastically improve your game and help get rid of that dreaded slice!

One of the best ways to improve your golf game is to develop perfect putting skills.

One of the simplest ways to improve your putt is to improve your posture. You should have your eyes over the ball, place your feet properly, and have your shoulders over your hands. Let’s elaborate on the elements of perfect putting.

First your eyes should be over the ball. Jack Nicklaus was the first great golfer to popularize putting your eyes directly over the ball when putting. Many golfers find this challenging.

One of the coolest simple golf tips I’ve heard is placing your golf ball on top of a small mirror which rests on the green. Can you see your own eyes in the mirror? If so, great. If not, adjust your position.

Or let your putter hang from between your eyes and then make sure it hangs down directly over your golf ball. You should find these techniques helpful for getting the proper stance and alignment to the hole.

Next, let’s look at how your feet are positioned. If your putts miss to the right, you may be standing too close to the ball. If your putts are going to the left, you might be standing too far away. (If you are left-handed, please reverse what you just read.) Your hips should be aligned over your heels. Place your weight on the balls of your feet. This will keep you balanced and stable over the putt. Use your shoulders and arms to control the stroke, while your knees, hips, and head stay still during the putt.

Your foot position will affect the way your hands are hanging down from your shoulders. Your hands should hang directly beneath your shoulders. This will typically create a smoother stroke. The most important consideration, however, is to keep your head and your body very still as you putt. You only need to move your arms and hands.

Don’t get too caught up with putting mechanics. Some golfers insist that there’s only one correct golf grip but that’s not true. Find a grip that is comfortable and works best for you. Try different postures and eventually you’ll find the perfect putting stance for you.

Once you find that successful stance, stay with it. Practice it until it becomes second nature to you. Don’t go crazy anytime you have a bad day. Some golfers keep changing things every week or every time they have an off game and never really settling in to a relaxed posture. That’s no way to develop a consistent golf game.

Finally, stay relaxed and enjoy the game. It’s essential to having a natural and easy golf swing. Don’t forget why you are playing golf in the first place – not for pain and frustration – but for fun and recreation!

Playing a chip shot from the fringe of a green versus putting through the fringe can be a little confusing for the average golfer. A lot of golfers choose to putt for the fear of not being able to control the distance of a chip shot around a green, and lets not talk about choking a chip shot. More often than not the confidence lies in the ability to putt the ball. When do you decide to chip instead of putt?

A quick review of some your options will help in the decision process. The circumstances have to be right to putt the ball. Here are some golf tips to consider and several situations to help your decision on choosing to chip the golf ball rather than electing to putt.

You may want to chip in these circumstances.

(1)Wet grass or thick grass.

The moisture or thickness of the grass is going to slow up the ball considerably, therefore weight of putt has to be determined to get it through the grass, and once you get it rolling on the green, the weight of putt it took you to get it through the fringe may not be enough or too much distance for the golf hole. In this circumstance there is too much weight control to consider.

(2)A very wet or slow green.

Chipping the golf ball will take a lot of moisture out of play, and a slow green forces you to swing harder with a putter to get the golf ball up to the hole, when the art of putting should call for a soft touch.

(3)Long grass and uphill to the hole.

You have to hit it harder to get it through the grass with a putter and up to the hole. Eliminate the chance of getting the golf ball caught up in the grass by chipping out and over.

(4)Over 7 feet of grass between golf ball and start of green, and hole is beyond center of green.

Chipping over the grass will eliminate slowing the golf ball up if you have a lot of green to work with.

(5)Hole is beyond center of green and more than 20 feet.

The odds are higher on getting the golf ball beyond 20 feet with a chipper versus a putter.

(6)Sprinkler system directly in front of line to golf hole or other obstacle that will affect the roll of golf ball.

Eliminate possible deflection of golf ball by chipping over the obstacle.

(7)Too much rolling terrain in the first 1/3 distance to the hole.

Taking most of the rolling green out of play by chipping over will give you a lot less rolling green to read unless you are very good at reading greens.

You have the ultimate decision on your ability to play any one of these golf club selections in these circumstances, but there is a good reason to think about these circumstances before you choose the club. I hope some of these golf tips will help in your decision process, and your goal to save strokes.

If you’re like me or most people, I would imagine that there are times were you experience first tee jitters.

Although, I’m much more comfortable that I used to be, I still occasionally get nervous on the first tee of a tournament, especially if I haven’t been in competition for a while.

Here are a few quick tips to help get more comfortable:

1) Get to the Tee Early to Visualize and Get Comfortable

When I played in my first PGA-sanctioned event, you can bet I was a bit anxious before my round. However, I was able to mitigate those feelings quite a bit because I went out to the tee box early to “make friends” with the tee box and get comfortable.

As I got there, I noticed there was quite a gallery around the box. The public address guy was announcing the names and I felt some chills. To calm myself, I started visualizing myself up on the tee box and it being my turn to hit. Right away, I felt more tense, but then I forced myself to feel calmer. I knew that the more relaxed I could be, the better I would start. I kept going back and forth between calming myself and picturing it being my turn to hit until I could do so feeling calm.

When it came to actually be my turn, I focused on feeling the same way that I had just rehearsed. Sure enough, it worked and I made solid contact on my drive and started off the tournament with a good par.

2) Educational Kinesiology

A second thing I do when I feel nervous is to put my hand over my stomach. If you’ve ever heard of educational kinesiology, you’d know that by performing certain movements, things like acts of speech, hearing, vision, coordination, etc, are enhanced. As an example, by placing my hand on my stomach, I experience a drop of energy from my head to my stomach, which in turn helps ground me, clears my head, and puts me in a calmer and more relaxed state..and as I’m sure you know, hitting a shot under a calmer and more relaxed state will produce more consistent results than if you are amped up and all over the place.

3) Getting Grounded

A third trick I sometimes do when I’m stirring around in my head too much is to imagine roots growing out of my feet. When I focus on this for a few seconds, all of a sudden I’ll feel the bundle of energy stuck in my head drop down and I’ll enter a more zen-like state. As I mentioned in the previous example, playing in this state is much more conducive to lower scores.
